REVIEW: Turbo

It seems films about racing are never a good idea – except the Fast & Furious series and Rush) but Dreamworks decided to give a shot and create a film about a snail that can move very fast and wants to race (bit ironic). I’ll be honest, the film is no way as good as the Shrek films (minus the third one) or the Madagascar series or even Shark Tale but it does have its laughs. My favourite parts are the random appearances of WHITE SHADOW (one of the snails – the big one wite snail in the poster above) and when after Turbo (voiced by Ryan Reynolds) gets washed in Nitrous Oxide and gets car-like abilities he randomly and uncontrollably plays music from out of his mouth like a car radio – bursting out tracks like Tom Jones’ What’s New Pussycat? and Snoop Dogg’s Drop It Like It’s Hot. The film also manages to take the mick out the problems with snails such as when they are scared they curl into their shell and how crows will fly down and eat them – there are some random moments  when the snails are going to work and suddenly a crow flies down and takes one. And it’s the random moments that make the film good. I know I say it with quite a lot of films but if you want a film to partly take the mick out of it and just want to have a laugh then you should see this film; when it has its funny moments they are extremely funny – me and my mates were hysterically laughing out loud. Plus the film has a good cast; Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Samuel L. Jackson, Snoop Dogg (the pink and green snail in the poster) and Maya Rudolph. So see it for the laughs.

Turbo: 6.2/10
