REVIEW: Ride Along

Fast-talking security guard Ben (Kevin Hart) joins his cop brother-in-law James (Ice Cube) on a 24-hour patrol of Atlanta in order to prove himself worthy of marrying Angela, James’ sister.

Now there some hilarious moments and a few other laughs here and there but the funniest parts (or what would have been in the cinema) are in the trailer. I understand it’s more important for comedies (compared to other genres) to put specific clips in the trailer – in order to prove to people that the film is funny for them and worth seeing – but some of the jokes/funny moments in the trailer are the final joke in a certain scene, which for me after seeing the trailer didn’t always lived up to what I expected it to be.

But there were hilarious moments in the film – no doubt about it – even if the plot/jokes could have been more adventurous. The other annoying problem with the film is that it’s predictable, not the jokes (except the part when Ben thinks a certain case is fake and he tries to be cocky about it when actually the shooting is real) but more the plot.

Do I think this is a better cop comedy film than The Heat? No, although Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are a great pair – Hart is hilarious. However, if you want a film to put a smile on your face then this film will nicely do that for you – especially if you haven’t seen the trailer.

Ride Along: 6.4/10
